My Approach

My therapeutic approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and I utilize mindfulness, cognitive flexibility and exposure strategies. I value the unique experience of every individual and enjoy a collaborative approach to the treatment process. CBT is generally a short-term treatment focusing on current symptoms. You will learn skills to manage your distress and we will practice applying the strategies to a range of emotional experiences. The goal of the treatment is to promote resiliency and improve emotional well-being.

What to Expect

To determine whether or not the treatment is a good fit, we will schedule and complete an intake evaluation. This is an opportunity to discuss your current symptoms and relevant history. We will also discuss the level of distress and interference the symptoms currently have in your life. After we have had a chance to meet and discuss your symptoms and expectations for treatment, we will have a better idea of the fit for treatment at my practice. If it does not seem like a good match, I can provide you with referral information. The intake evaluation and treatment include the following:

Evaluation steps include:

  • During your initial intake evaluation we will discuss your current symptoms and distress you are experiencing

  • Introduce the treatment model

  • Answer questions you have regarding the treatment

  • Discuss whether the treatment is a good fit for you

Treatment steps include:

  • Identify concrete goals for treatment

  • Learn strategies for increasing awareness of emotional experiences

  • Develop helpful, evidence-based ways of thinking

  • Practice engaging in alternative actions

  • Learn to approach difficult emotional experiences that are consistent with your goals and values
